Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Central Public Information Officer (CPIO)

Public Information Officers (PIOs) have been appointed by the Accountant General to assist in discharging duties under the Right to Information Act, 2005, at the Headquarters and Branch Offices.

Procedure for Filing an Application

Any person seeking information under the RTI Act may submit a request in writing or through electronic means to the concerned Public Information Officer. Applications may be made in English or Malayalam, and must be accompanied by the prescribed fee as detailed below.

Format of Application

There is no prescribed format for the RTI application. However, applicants should clearly mention the following details:

  • Full Name and Address for correspondence
  • Telephone Number (optional)
  • The specific information required, along with relevant details such as file number, subject, or date (if available)

Fee Structure

The fee may be paid in cash against a proper receipt, or through Banker’s Cheque, Demand Draft, or Indian Postal Order drawn in favour of:
Pay and Accounts Officer, Office of the Accountant General (A&E), Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.

Quantum of Fee:

  • Application Fee: ₹10/- (Rupees Ten only) under Section 6(1)
  • For providing information under Section 7(1):
    • ₹2/- per page (A4 or A3 size) created or copied
    • Actual cost for larger size documents
    • Actual cost for samples or models
    • For inspection of records: No fee for the first hour; ₹5/- for each additional hour thereafter

Receipt of Applications and Fees

Arrangements for receiving RTI applications and fees have been made at the Reception Counters of the respective Public Information Officers at the Headquarters and Branch Offices. Applicants may also remit the required fee as per the procedure mentioned above.

Appeals and Appellate Authority

If an applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the Public Information Officer, an appeal may be filed before the Appellate Authority, namely the Accountant General (A&E), Kerala.
