There is a Welfare Assistant who has been appointed on deputation basis. The Welfare Assistant performs such duties and fulfils those responsibilities that ensure improvement in the working conditions.

His Duties & Functions are as follows:-

  • Issuing of ID cards of serving employees and pensioners and Railway Family Identity Card to Pensioners/Family Pensioners and; advising new recruitees and new transferees in their initial phase as may be required.
  • To advise on provisions and maintaining amenities & welfare facilities in the office building i.e. encouraging provision of adequate sanitation facilities, safe drinking water, overall hygiene.
  • Assisting the Deputy Director (Admn), who is also the ex-officio Welfare Officer, in personal verification of conditions of family of deceased employees who are applying for the job on compassionate grounds.
  • To advise on quality food and smooth functioning of the departmental Tiffin Room.
  • To organise regular social & cultural activities amongst the members of the staff for strengthening the social bonds and break the monotony at work place.
  • Liaising for the outstation officers and staff on their visit to Guwahati including their lodging and boarding arrangements and arrangement of Railway Rest Houses for officers and staff in Guwahati and outstations.
  • Arrange for Emergency Quota for Officers and Staff proceeding on duty/leave.
  • To organise observance of special days of national and international significance to sustain the importance of these special days and inculcate patriotism towards country and the planet earth at large.
  • Conducting camps like Blood Donation Camp, Yoga Camp, meditation camps, Health & Dental Check-up, etc. for the overall well-being of the members of the staff.
  • To liaise with Railway Accounts Office for following-up of retirement cases and obtain PPOs of pensioners.
  • To liaise with Railway Administration on official matters and with SSEs regarding occupation/surrender of Railway Quarters by Officers and Staff.
  • To render assistance to Officers and Staff and their family members in emergency and enquiring well-being of officers and staff hospitalized.
  • To visit next of kin of officials who die in harness at places outside their Headquarters and enquire their well-being and render assistance, that may be required.
  • Any other issue related to the welfare of the office and the office staff members.
