The Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit-I) Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, which is a part of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, functions under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and performs audit of different Institutions and Departments of the State Government of Madhya Pradesh categorized under following groups:

Audit Management Group (AMG)-I

conducts Audit of units pertaining to Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs), Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under Technical Guidance and support (TGS) under section 20(1) of CAG DPC Act 1971. Audit of Local Fund Audit offices of Madhya Pradesh is also done (under section 13) .Findings of Audit of Local bodies (PRIs & ULBs) are incorporated in ATIR (Annual Technical Inspection Report) and Report of CAG on G&SSA (non-PSU).

Audit Management Group (AMG)-II

deals with the local audit of Madhya Pradesh State Government Social Sector Departments i.e. Public Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment, Rehabilitation, Tribal Affairs, Schedule Caste, Denotified Nomadic, Semi-Nomadic Caste Welfare, OBC Development and Minorities, Sainik Kalyan, Hill/special Area Councils, AYUSH, Medical Education, Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation.

The Audit Management Group (AMG)-III

deals with the local audit of Madhya Pradesh State Government Civil Departments and Public Sector Undertakings i.e.School Education Department (including Sanskrit Education, Library), Higher Education, Technical Education & Skill Development (including ITI & Employment),Sports & Youth welfare Department, Labour Department (including Employee State Insurance),Public Service Commission (GAD).

Audit Management Group (AMG)-IV

deals with the local audit of Madhya Pradesh State Government's  Departments i.e. Water Resources, Dam safety (NVDD), Farmer Welfare & Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Horticulture, Food Civil Supply & Consumer Affairs, Cooperatives (includes MarkFed)

Audit Management Group (AMG)-V

deals with the local audit of Madhya Pradesh State Government's  Departments i.e. Collectorate with General Election,Land Revenue,Local Election,Information & Public Relation,Information commission,Printing & Stationery, Gazette, Hospitality, Personnel, Institute of Public Administration.
