The Office of the Principal Director of Audit, Railway, Kolkata, functions under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). As one of the nine (9) Zonal Railway Audit Offices in India, it is responsible to the CAG through the Deputy/Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General of India (Railways) for administrative matters and audits.
Headquartered at Kolkata, the Office extends its reach through branch offices at Kolkata-I, Kolkata-II, Hajipur, Varanasi (BLW) and Burdwan (CLW)—ensuring audit coverage across its jurisdiction.
Our Role
The Principal Director of Audit holds overall charge of the Office, assisted by the Director, Deputy Director and Senior Audit Officers. The Principal Director of Audit directs and monitors the activities of audit units across the jurisdictional Railways as per constitution mandates and guidelines received from HQs in this regard.
Audit findings from this Office are compiled for inclusion in the Audit Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Indian Railways—presented to Parliament under Article 151 of the Constitution of India, upholding transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
