Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit I), Kerala
The Principal Accountant General (Audit I), Kerala is the Head of the Department of Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit I), Kerala, one of the Field Offices of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG). The C&AG, the head of the Supreme Audit Institution of India (SAI), derives his duties and powers mainly from Articles 149 to 151 of the Constitution of India and the Comptroller and Auditor General's (Duties, Powers and Conditions of Service) Act, 1971.
The main audit functions entrusted with the Principal Accountant General are:
- Audit of 35 Apex Audit Units, 76 Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous Bodies, Agencies and Attached Offices (35 Apex Audit Units, 3,920 Audit Units and 24,279 Implementing Units) under these Apex Units in the Government of Kerala
- Supplementary audit of financial statements of Local Self Government Institutions under Technical Guidance and Support entrusted to CAG
- Audit of the Schemes aided by the World Bank and Other external agencies, which require certification by the Principal Accountant General.
- Preparation of Reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India relating to Government of Kerala as:
- Topic based Stand Alone Reports
- Cluster/Department based Reports
- Rendering assistance to the State Legislative Committees during examination of Audit Reports.
The Principal Accountant General is also responsible for:
- Administrative functions of the Office
- Management of Estate of the Offices of the Principal Accountants General in Kerala and
- Welfare Activities of the staff members of the office.
