The Office of the Accountant General, Mumbai was established on 1 May 1858 at the Old CGO Complex, New Marine Lines, Mumbai. Over the years, the Auditing and Accounting responsibilities of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India in relation to the State of Maharashtra expanded manifold and as of today the same are being managed by the following offices of the Indian Audit & Accounts Department, each headed by a separate Accountant General/ Principal Accountant General:

  • Office of the Accountant General (A&E)-I, Maharashtra, Mumbai
  • Office of the Accountant General (A&E)-II, Maharashtra, Nagpur
  • Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit)-I, Maharashtra, Mumbai
  • Office of the Accountant General (Audit)-II, Maharashtra, Nagpu
  • Office of the Director General of Audit (Central), Maharashtra, Mumbai

The Office of the Accountant General (Audit)-I, Maharashtra, Mumbai, came into existence on 01.03.1984, consequent on the restructuring of the cadres and the organizational set up of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. The office was upgraded to that of the Principal Accountant General (Audit)-I, Maharashtra, Mumbai with effect from 05.02.1990.
